When a load supporting tool 32 runs on a lifter rail 31 downwards, a heavy load B comes downward and the loads A and B act on each other. Then, the length of the sample is measured by a light projecting part 41 and a photodetecting part 42, operated by a microcomputer 52 and output to a display 53 and a printer 54. Accordingly, the expanding property of the thread can be automatically and continuously measured.
