When the two eldest, Lucy and Polly, were fit for marriage, two young gentlemen in the neighbour-hood paid their addresses to them, and promised them marriage, on condition of Mr. Ward's portioning them off: Mr. Ward not being able ot give them according to their expectations, they declined their addresses: the dreadful scene which follow'd after, contains such alarming circumstances in common life, as are too frequent, and may be justly aid to be a lesson proper to be read by all who have any regard for themselves and families.
