Zusammenfassung:IntroductionSepsis induced cardiomyopathy (SIC) is defined as reversible dysfunction of the left and/or right ventricle and is poorly characterized in literature.HypothesisThis study was designed to determine patient/disease characteristics, sepsis severity scores and prognostic implications associated with SIC in patients with septic shock.MethodsIn this retrospective study, charts of patients admitted to Medical ICU with diagnosis of septic shock from January 2016 to December 2017 who had an echo within 72 hours of diagnosis of septic shock were reviewed. Patients were diagnosed with SIC if they had a reversible decline in Ejection Fraction (EF) of ≥ 10% during sepsis in absence of acute coronary syndrome. Patients with significant valvular dysfunction were excluded.ResultsSeptic Shock was diagnosed in a total of 168 patients, out of which 16 had concurrent SIC. Baseline characteristics and sepsis severity scores were not different between the two groups. Median APACHE II score was [22 (IQR; 16 - 27) versus 25 (IQR; 20.5- 29.5), p = 0.079] and median SOFA was [9 (IQR; 6- 10) versus 10 IQR (6.5,-12.5), p value 0.21] in patient with septic shock and SIC, respectively. Median Left Ventricular EF was 25% (IQR 17.5 % - 36%) in patients with SIC and 65% IQR (58%-70%) without SIC, p < 0.001. Bacterial sepsis (93.8% vs 46.7%, p
