Multiple organ dysfunction treated with kampo medicines in the intensive care unit

ABSTRACT Case A 35‐year‐old man had septic shock caused by Staphylococcus species. Saireito was given to improve vomiting and diarrhea, and inchinkoto to improve liver dysfunction. Outcome All symptoms improved after treatment with saireito and inchinkoto. No adverse reactions to kampo medicines occurred during the course of treatment. Conclusion Kampo medicines may help improve digestive symptoms associated with multiple organ dysfunction, even for patients in a serious condition.
