| Zusammenfassung: | Bacteriostatic values of certain selected simple phenols, derivatives of benzoic acid and of salicylic acid, coumarins, and benzophenones against M. tuberculosis have been determined and the results are reported. Certain of these agents were also tested against other microorganisms, and in vivo in guinea pigs infected with M. tuberculosis, using streptomycin and p-aminosalicylic acid as reference drugs. A theory of the mechanism of action of salicylic acid and some of its derivatives is proposed. |
