Zusammenfassung:Background There is paucity of information on the cognitive functions in patients with HiV infection in Nigeria Method Fifty patients with HIV infection were studied along age,sex and level of education matched 50 HIV negative controls subjects.The patients underwent general physical and neurologically examinations. Laboratory investigations such as blood glucose test, CD4 cell counts, Full blood counts,CXrays, HIV clinical staging were done for all patients Fepsy neuropsychological Test battery was used for cognitive asssessment in all the study participants. Result The patients with HIV infections performed worse on measures of psychomotor speed (auditory reaction times, visual reaction times, attention concentration(Binary choice reaction times and computerized visual searching tasks) than the controls The prevalence of sevvere cognitive infection in HIV patients was 20%.Presence of anaemia and advanced HIV disease stage were predictive of cognitive impairment in the patients with HIV infection. Conclusion HIV Associated Cognitive Disorder is common in patients with HIV in this study
