Zusammenfassung: | This chapter talks about a question‐and‐answer session with C. W. Stuber, M. Lee, A. S. Tsaftaris, and J. D. Eastin on biochemistry, molecular biology, and physiology of heterosis. Lee defines genomics as an integrated assembly of approaches with the goal being a comprehensive assessment of the content of an expression of an entire genome, starting with DNA and the functional analysis of its products, and ending with the phenotype. He believes that the term genomics has been used widely since the 1980s in the wake of the Human Genome Project. Tsaftaris shares his knowledge on the differences in inbreds and in hybrids for total methylation as well as for methylation patterns. For an applied breeding program, Eastin shares his knowledge on what is a practical method for screening lines for rate of grain fill and length of grain fill. |
