Zusammenfassung: | This chapter provides the basic characteristics, side effects/toxicity, drug interactions, and dosage information of the Pyrantel Pamoate. Pyrantel Pamoate depolarizing the neuromuscular junction of the nematode causing muscular contraction followed by paralysis. Abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, headache, dizziness, pruritus, and insomnia are the side effects of Antiminth. Pyrantel is antagonistic with piperazine and should not be co‐administered. It is poorly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Predominantly eliminated unchanged in the feces. Pyrantel is used for: Enterobius vermicularis, Trichostrongylus orientalis, Ancylostoma duodenale and Necator americanus, Moniliformis, and Oesophagostomum bifurcum. Pyrantel is not effective against Trichuris trichiura. Pyrantel pamoate suspension can be mixed with milk or fruit juice. 11 mg/kg base PO once (maximum 1 g) of Antiminth like Enterobius, Trichostrongylus are used per dose. |
