Designing and Implementing a Deployment Plan

This chapter walks us through all the information we need to create a deployment plan for our business intelligence application. It starts with definition of a deployment plan, and explains why we must have one for our business intelligence solution, and discusses some of the stumbling blocks we may face while implementing the deployment plan. The chapter shows how to deploy some of the business intelligence products, and finally, the steps needed to implement the deployment plan. The chapter explains each of the various deployment options and provides examples of how to perform the deployment. One of the easiest methods available to deploy Reporting Services reports is to use the development environment, either SQL Server Data Tools Business Intelligence (SSDT‐BI) or Report Builder. Implementing the deployment plan takes several steps: planning, creating the scripts, documenting the steps, testing the plan, and finally, training your staff to carry out the plan.
