Seriously, Who Keeps Moving My Cheese?!?

When we read a neat and tidy summary of how this plucky manager or that well‐oiled team beat the odds and sailed smoothly to victory thanks to one or two good decisions and deep devotion to a 90‐day sprint and waitlist, it implies that “change” is an orderly, predictable annual or quarterly occurrence. Most often, the changes were small and ambiguous. In the case of one pharmaceutical company charged with complying with a strict new federal regulation, the urgent change project dragged on for more than a year as the federal regulators kept changing the definition of “compliant”. Twenty years ago, leaders all over the world were trying to figure out “who moved my cheese?” Today, they are trying to make peace with the fact that their cheese never stops moving.
