Zusammenfassung:Many of the faculty inspired strategies discussed were informed by and serve as examples of formal and informal mentoring practices that can aid early career faculty members as they settle into their new roles and institutions. This chapter highlights some of the distinct challenges and opportunities that early career faculty may face when employed at different types of institutions. The professoriate is changing in terms of demographics, appointment types, and the kinds of knowledge developed and disseminated by the faculty members employed by a diversity of institutions of higher education. Institutional missions, associated expectations of faculty work, and institutional challenges affect the faculty experience and faculty learning for early career faculty. The chapter concludes with specific recommendations for practice and policy, which may be of particular interest to department chairs, deans, hiring committees, institutional orientation or induction offices, and faculty professional development professionals.
