Energy Consumption at High-Frequency Modulation of an Uncooled InGaAs/GaAs/AlGaAs Microdisk Laser

The energy consumption of a microdisk laser with InGaAs/GaAs quantum well-dots at high-frequency modulation without forced cooling has been investigated. The lowest energy consumption for a microlaser 20 μm in diameter is estimated to be 1.6 pJ per data bit transferred using an optical signal.
