Deuteration and Vibrational Spectra of Dimethylammonium Paratungstate‐B Hydrates

Infrared and Raman spectra of two solvatomorphs of a new dimethylammonium polytungstate decakis(dimethylammonium) dihydrogendodecatungstate, (Me2NH2)(H2W12O42)·nH2O (n = 10 or 11), were evaluated and discussed. Zusammenfassung:Infrared and Raman spectra of two solvatomorphs of a new dimethylammonium polytungstate decakis(dimethylammonium) dihydrogendodecatungstate, (Me2NH2)(H2W12O42)·nH2O (n = 10 or 11), were evaluated and discussed. The assignment of bands corresponding to the cationic and anionic components as well as the water of crystallization is presented. Deuteration has been used in the interpretation of the spectra. The dimethylammonium cation and the molecules of water of crystallization form a network of regular and multifurcated hydrogen bonds, thus a fraction of the N–H hydrogen atoms are so strongly bound to the anion, that the compound can only be deuterated with an aggressive procedure. The method for deuteration is described in detail. The deuterated undecahydrate can be obtained from both solvatomorphs.
