Zusammenfassung: | The repair work on the first of the four defensive pillars of Germany's largest coastal protection structure presented a major challenge for the executing companies. The upper areas of all four defensive pillars of the Eidersperrwerk must be repaired. In order to assess the actual degree of damage, the workload and the optimization of the repair concept, the ceiling of the defensive pillar 2 was repaired on a trial basis.
Due to high requirements in terms of quality and construction process, scheduling was necessary down to the smallest detail. In addition, the external conditions available due to the geographical location made construction work more difficult. Wind and weather, limiting the construction time due to the onset of the storm surge season and maintaining the operation and accessibility of the structure required increased protection measures and close coordination of all parties involved. The unexpected discovery of near-surface prestressing tendons and clamping bells required a comprehensive adaptation of the planned construction procedures. The complete rescheduling of the expansion joint construction as well as the use of materials optimally adapted to this particular application made it possible to successfully complete this construction project. |
