Calixarenes are excellent scaffolds that can De modified by introducing various functional groups to create specific interactions between the host and guest molecules. Thus, many calixarene derivatives containing special functional groups, such as ester, amide and thiourea, have been synthesized and their excellent complexing capability for cations have also been studled. Lately, calixarene derivatives containing two or more sorts of functional groups have attracted much attention.
