Zusammenfassung:Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) is key to solve multiple global crises. Under the full-round promotion of UNESCO, ESD has gone through four stages: education for the protection of the environment, environment education for the adaption of sustainability, ESD for construction of an equitable and sustainable future, and ESD for the realization of coexistence of people and the earth. The history of ESD presents three features: from promoting environmental protection to realizing ecological, social and economic justice, from universalizing ESD to reconstructing the whole system of it, and from realizing sustainable development for all to caring symbiosis between human being and the earth. In the future, ESD will become the core of education, adhere the long-term vision of being responsible for the future of the earth, take the opportunity of technological innovation to reform itself and realize localization by relying on the normalization of multi-centered subject action mode
