Zusammenfassung:The effect of process temperature on the bondability of ferritic (AISI-430) and martensitic (AISI-420) stainless steels was studied. Diffusion bonding was investigated experimentally under a protective atmosphere at various temperatures and a defined constant pressure. Microstructure examinations were carried out by the help of SEM and EDS. Hardness values were measured by HV scale under a load of 150 g. A mutual migration of Cr and C atoms was observed, causing a relatively hard microstructure along the interface. Best mechanical and metallurgical properties were observed for the specimen bonded at 1100°C process temperature at 12 MPa, for 20 min.
