Creating a hit narrative podcast, Part 2: Under the hood of The Last Voyage of the Pong Su

In July 2019, the core Pong Su production team met for the first time at The Age in Melbourne. Aside from contributing informally to an early planning discussion about Wrong Skin, narrative consultant Kate Cole-Adams had never worked on a podcast before – and indeed had never even listened much to podcasts. Her first impression of the project was of ‘an extraordinarily “plotty” drama with enormous amounts happening’. But other aspects appealed even more: The thing that really, really got me in was the kind of intimacies of the relationships that it had access to and that it could build
