Zusammenfassung: | The CEFR Companion Volume has given greater prominence to mediation as a component part of language proficiency. This is a welcome development in that the amplification and elaborations on mediation can provide an enriched account of language-in-use. In this chapter, I will explore the articulation of mediation within the action-oriented approach to language modelling adopted by the CEFR. I will pay particular attention to the fluid and dynamic nature of emotional intelligence and plurilingualism as aspects of mediation in social interaction.
