Listen Carefully, Act Thoughtfully: Exploring Sex Work as an Adult Education Context

While attending a conference in Ghana on sex trafficking, renowned author, journalist, and activist Gloria Steinem made a trip to Zambia (Steinem, 2014). She found herself sitting among 30 village women mourning two female tribe members who had disappeared after going to Lusaka to trade sex for money to support their families. Steinem learned the women’s husbands worked in the tourism industry at nearby wildlife lodges. These lodges did not hire women, which meant the women had to find work elsewhere to cover basic living costs and their children’s school fees. Many of the women contributed to the village farming,
