Alexander Hamilton knew more about money and finance than just about anyone at the Constitutional Convention. He was born out of wedlock in the West Indies around 1755, came to New York City in 1773, where he studied at King’s College, now Columbia University, and became an American patriot. He joined the New York militia to fight the British during the Revolution and served on George Washington’s Continental Army staff for most of the War.
