Zusammenfassung: | A survey was conducted of 19 farms in the Poas region, of which 4 were selected for detailed monitoring. Forage availability and quality were assessed before grazing. Forage intake was estimated from production, using feeding standards "backwards". The amount of concentrate fed, stocking rates and milk production varied widely; but all farms were found to over-supplement with protein. It is concluded that more intensive use, rather than improvement, of the pastures, is needed to increase productivity. |
