Expanded bit map display for mounting on a building surface and a method of creating same

An expanded bit map display ("EBMD") for displaying an image and a method of creating such for mounting the EBMD to a building surface is provided. The EBMD is a large-scale colored light display comprising a plurality of intelligent light fixtures having a microprocessor and a memory and mounted to the building surface. Each light fixture is separately addressable and operable to store lighting characteristics or information. Groups of light fixtures are in communication with a central processor operable to communicate control protocol.
