An air preheater has first and second gas passageways for respectively directing the generated flue gas and another gas with captured COgenerated by combustion outside of the combustor . When operated in a non-COcapture, the air preheater receives the flue gas , but not the other gas , and the first gas passageway directs the flue gas so as to preheat the air . However, when operated in the COcapture mode, the air preheater receives the flue gas and the other gas , and the second gas passageway also directs the other gas so as to preheat the air ′. In either mode, the preheated air ′ is applied by the combustor to fluidize a bed of fossil fuel
