Muffler and corresponding manufacturing process

A muffler for an exhaust system of an internal combustion engine, especially of a motor vehicle, with a housing, which has a jacket and an end bottom each at two mutually spaced longitudinal ends of the jacket. At least one jacket opening is provided, which passes through the jacket and through which an inner tube arranged in the interior of housing can be connected to a tube of the exhaust system. The manufacture of the muffler can be simplified if the jacket is segmented in the circumferential direction and has a jacket segment, which is manufactured as a separate component in relation to the remaining jacket. The separate component jacket segment is rigidly connected to the remaining jacket and has the at least one jacket opening.
