A gas sensor includes a gas detection element, a metallic shell, a plate packing, and a first packing. A proximal end surface of a projection of the gas sensor element and a central inner circumferential surface of the metallic shell form an acute-angle clearance. The first packing, which has a wedge-like cross section, is disposed in the clearance such that the first packing is pressed against the proximal end surface of the projection of the gas sensor element and the central inner circumferential surface of the metallic shell.
