I2O ISM implementation for a san based storage subsystem

The present invention relates generally to computers, and more particularly to communications between interconnected computer nodes, storage subsystems, and other network devices. A method is provided for processing a remote request by a local processor. The method includes the steps of receiving a remote request from a remote node over a network by a remote aware software driver interface and modifying the remote request with a software converter to emulate a local request which can be processed by the local processor. The method also includes the step of verifying that the remote request can be serviced by the local processor and executing the remote request by the local processor.
