Engine speed control system

This invention relates to internal combustion engines, and in particular a method and control system for use in such engines to control the revolutionary speed thereof. The invention will in the main be described in relation to a direct injection two-stroke spark ignition engine, although it is to be appreciated that use of the method and control system in relation to other engine applications is also envisaged. A method of controlling the engine speed of an internal combustion engine, the method providing the steps of determining the speed of the engine at a given time, determining the change in the speed of the engine from a previous determination of the engine speed, and using the values for engine speed and change in engine speed to determine whether a future event should be a combustion event or a non-combustion event.
