Method for monitoring an internal combustion engine

This application claims the priority of German Patent 199 27 846.6, filed Jun. 18, 1999, the disclosure of which is expressly incorporated by reference herein. A method of monitoring an internal combustion engine by continuously computing pressure values of the cylinders from current parameters of the engines by using a mathematical model. At each point in time, there are both a computed pressure value and a measured pressure value, which are compared in order to provide information concerning the condition of a pressure sensor and to deactivate a faulty pressure sensor and use the computed pressure values for further operation of the engine.
