The axial piston engine () also comprises a retracting device (). The guide shoes () rest on the retracting device () when the pistons () are retracted. A restraint system () is accommodated in the housing (), can be moved against a spring () and is used for supporting the retracting device () at the housing (). The aim of the invention is to improve and stabilise the support of the retracting device (). To this end, the retracting device () is supported by a support device () which is situated behind the retracting device () at the side facing away from the swash plate (). The support device is connected to the swash plate (). The restraint system () supports the back of an essentially radial locating face () at the swash plate () or an add-on piece thereof when the restraint system () is pushed into the interior space () of the housing.
