Packaging of an optical fiber laser

The present invention relates to a method of packaging an fiber laser to reduce environmental influences and, specifically, such influences as act to reduce their performance, and to reduce frequency jitter and, thus, serve to create ultra narrow linewidth fiber lasers. A method of packaging an optical fiber laser incorporates an optical fiber laser () in a matrix of a curable viscous material (). The matrix has a loss coefficient/dissipation factor high enough to dampen acoustic vibrations and a thermal diffusivity low enough to reduce transient heat flow into the optical fiber laser.
