Crankshaft casting pattern and method

This invention relates to a crankshaft casting pattern and method and more particularly, to a crankshaft casting pattern and method that produces crankshafts which have an improved rotational balance capability and which can be measured with improved accuracy. A crankshaft casting pattern insert which includes selectively adjustable portions , which respectively correspond the front and rear main bearing journal portions of the crankshaft. Each adjustable portion includes a removable insert or member , a key member , several "vertical" spacers , several "lateral" spacers , and a fastener . Adjustable portions allow the pattern to be selectively modified in shape, effective to compensate for pattern wear and to allow multiple crankshafts to be produced which have a substantially similar balance capability. Pattern may also include several validation pads or points which allow the produced crankshafts to be measured with improved accuracy.
