Zusammenfassung: | The schooled society is a defining component of contemporary society, and with large-scale capitalism and widespread representative democracy is a leading social revolution. Over the past 150 years, a massive regime of education has produced a powerful culture, transformed most individuals in the world, and created far-reaching consequences for all facets of society; yet, the education revolution is intellectually underappreciated in its role in creating contemporary society. Comparative and international scholarship is uniquely positioned to tell the full story of the coming of a worldwide schooled society and the human condition. Following a summary of the dynamics of the revolution and a note on a promising theoretical perspective on education as a primary institution, its impact on social institutions is illustrated through what happens to minds, politics, and gods in the schooled society. |
