Zusammenfassung: | The author comments on the idea of "visibility" as it relates to American artist Clement Greenberg. She adapted and extended the concept of "visibility" from the philosophies of Michel Foucault and Gilles Deleuze, where it shifts from a quality (of visibility) to an entity (the visibility). At its narrowest, the modernist visibility comprises the aesthetic protocols required by a specific abstract painting--what may or may not be seen there according to an art-world expert. The visibility enforced on Greenberg meshed with parallel systems of audibilities, tactilities, and so forth in post-war New York. |
