Zusammenfassung:Summary OBJECTIVE AND SUBJECTS: Intention of the study is to evaluate a new form of rehabilitation in Germany: quasi inpatient rehabilitation. This kind of rehabilitation contains a full offer of regular inpatient rehabilitation without overnight stay, breakfast and evening meal. The aim of the study is to clarify whether the outcome can compared to traditional inpatient rehabilitation. DESIGN: The study compares quasi inpatient and regular inpatient rehabilitation, illustrated by the example of orthopedics. Data are collected by physicians who filled in 54 questionaires in two samples. RESULTS: Health outcome and patient satisfaction do not differ from an inpatient control group with the exception of two variables: job integration and psychical development. Both of which seem to be more successfull in regular inpatient rehabilitation. CONCLUSIONS: In total, quasi inpatient rehabilitation nearly attains the same rehabilitative outcome as regular inpatient rehabilitation. This new kind of rehabilitation contributes to provide a flexible and need-orientated health service in german rehabilitation system. In this respect, quasi inpatient rehabilitation seems to be a valuable complement to traditional in- and outpatient rehabilitation, though quasi inpatient rehabilitation is not able to replace traditional rehabilitation on a large scale.
