Zusammenfassung:Abstract Muscular atrophy is a regular consequence of degenerative or inflammatory joint processes. The causing mechanism is probably reflex inhibition, due to articular nociceptive receptors. Knee effusion may lead to such muscular inhibition, which was in our own study reduced by aspiration of the effusion. A review of the literature confirms the need of aspirating acute or chronic joint effusions in order to optimize the muscular rehabilitation.
