Zusammenfassung:Abstract The synovectomy of the elbow is in comparison to operative procedure at other sites indicated less frequently, because of functional compensation at the upper extremity in case of deterioration of the elbow. A retrospective multicenter study of synovectomies of the elbow within the ERASS reexamned 265 joints within 11 rheuma centers at a follow up period of 4,1 years. According to the literature this study supported the indication for good longterm results at a radiographic grade Larsen, Dale, Eek II and III. Painreduction was documented in 82% of the elbow joints. The range of motion was increased in terms of flexion/extension and pro-/supination for 14,3° and 19,8° respectively, The resection of the radial head is indicated in stage LDE III to V. The dorsoradial approach reveals the best reduction of swelling and pain and prevents additional nerve irritation. Fur further evaluation of detailed parameter a prospective study using the now standardized documentation is indicated.
