Zusammenfassung:The aim was to explore differences in the development of eGFR in persisting prediabetic conditions. This prospective study including 1327 individuals showed that eGFR decreased more in individuals with persisting IGT than in individuals with persisting IFG. Repeating OGTT and monitoring eGFR might improve the risk estimation in prediabetes. •Different kinds of persisting prediabetes differ in renal impairment over 10 years.•Persisting IGT seems worse than persisting IFG, considering eGFR decline.•Persisting IGT resembles type 2 diabetes, considering eGFR decline over 10 years.•Repeating OGTT and monitoring eGFR might improve risk estimation in prediabetes.
