Zusammenfassung: | The headlines of the past several years have been dominated by political revolutions and discussions of economic inequality all over the world.1 These movements are not uncommon historically, but their clustered existence illustrates the need for further development in our systems of government and economy in order to realize a better tomorrow. Conventional welfare systems, command economies and open markets have proved, in different ways, to be unable to provide for individuals’ fundamental needs and for their full participation in their societies. The challenge has been to develop systems that are reflective, receptive and effective in ensuring citizens’ welfare. This balance has been difficult to find and has led to the continued development of how we envision our economic and political systems. Each chapter of this volume educates us on how systems can or might work to meet specific needs and interests. Each of these potential and realized systems used different devices and motivations to give currency to citizens. |
