David A. Shirley’s research group—The early years

This article is a memoir of David Arthur Shirley's early career, during his graduate student days at UC Berkeley and the Lawrence Radiation Laboratory (LRL), and later as a young professor at the College of Chemistry and LRL. It covers the 20-year period from 1955 to 1974, with a few references to earlier and later events. It derives from personal observations and private communications and, thus, gives only a few literature references.
