Mass balance analysis of essential oil production from lemon grass (Cymbopogon nardus) through extraction process

Indonesia has a lot of natural resources, especially the variety of plants. Many plants contain an essential oil which gives benefits to our daily life. The essential oil can be used for pain removal, anti-inflammation, antioxidants, etc. Also, some of the oil can be used as a pesticide, for example, citronellal from lemongrass. The main essential oil compound in lemon grass are citronellal, citronellol, and geraniol. For that reason, this research aims to know the yield of the extraction of essential oil from lemongrass (Cymbopogon nardus) through mass balance analysis. The results show that the essential oil production gains 51,84 gram (56,35 ml) from 1,500 grams of lemongrass and yields around 3,45%.
