Zusammenfassung: | Epidermin, a bacteriocin produced by Staphylococcus epidermidis, is known for its antimicrobial properties. Pseudomonas aeruginosa are pathogens and opportunistic bacteria associated with various infections. The study aimed to determine the effect of epidermin on Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The study included 13 isolates of Staphylococcus epidermidis isolated from clinical sources in Baghdad. The experimental approach involved extraction and purifying epidermin and testing its inhibitory effects on Pseudomonas aeruginosa growth. One isolate out of 13 isolates of Staphylococcus epidermidis was selected for epidermin production after extraction and purification of epidermin. The results showed that epidermin activity (43U/ml), specific activity (430U/mg), and the purification fold was (6.1), with a yield of protein (34.4%), and the absorbance at 260 nm for untreated Pseudomonas aeruginosa cells was 0.234, while the treated cells of indicator bacteria showed an increase in absorbance to 0.662 for Pseudomonas aeruginosa. |
