Zusammenfassung: | Urban runoff management and treatment are necessary, especially in areas that encounter heavy rains during the year. Pervious concrete (PC) is a plausible material that can be used in light traffic areas and green spaces to mitigate stormwateras well as make a good contribution to treating them. In this regard, anthracite is known as an excellent filter media for water purification. However, no attempt was made to utilize the anthracite in PC. Therefore, the use of anthracite as a rawmaterial in the production of PC was investigated in this paper aiming to improve the stormwater management system. Theeffects of adding anthracite in different proportions (10, 20, and 30% w/w of coarse aggregates) on compressive strength, flexural strength, tensile strength, porosity, and permeability coefficient of PC were pursued. After evaluating these parameters, the chemical oxygen demand (COD) of the runoff samples after passing through different PC specimens was measured. Results show the improvement in strength with increasing anthracite proportions, but it affects the permeabilityand porosity negatively. Unsurprisingly, all PC specimens containing anthracite performed better in COD reduction. |
