Zusammenfassung: | In this research study work is done on the control of sediment erosion from the river banks with the use of Spur dikes. Spur dikes are those river training structures that protect the banks of the river from eroding & maintain the flow of water of the stream. The hydraulic parameters like discharge, velocities and sediment thickness are significantly affected by the presence of spur dikes in the river flow. The parameters that influence the spur dike design is the spacing among each of them, width and length of spur dikes. The physical experiments carried out on the flume provide us details about the parameters like velocity, water depth, and other significant parameters throughout the channel length. On the basis of them, we are able to compute the Froude number, Reynolds number, discharge and other variables. By providing spur dikes at the river banks, thescour holes which are earlier formed at the banks of river shifts to the tip of spur dikes inside the river, thus preventing scouring and erosion of river banks. The sand erodes initially up to first spur dike, but due to presence of more spur dikes all along the length, the erosion of sand reduces. |
