Zusammenfassung: | Progressive development of autonomous technology and vehicle through the inventions of complex sensors and devices have attracted various attention from many parties including automotive industry players, consumers, and policy makers. The autonomous vehicles (AV) system is considered to be the solution to the issue of rise in road accidents as 90% of road crashes were believed to be due to human errors. In the light of the growing interest, the importance of autonomous technology will be explored through a review in the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program (ASEAN NCAP). The main purpose of this review is to provide recommendations related to autonomous technology for the future ASEAN NCAP Roadmap based on the classification of autonomous driving level, AV policies and legislation, and comparison of autonomous technology assessment among Euro NCAP, Japan NCAP, Latin NCAP and Australasian NCAP. The classification of autonomous driving level indicates the degree of complexity of an autonomous system, the combination of various autonomous technologies will result in higher levels of driving automation. The required assessment of autonomous technology in ASEAN NCAP for the best safety rating will indirectly determine the required level of driving automation of the vehicle. In addition, earlier planning for AV policies and legislation may provide benefits for ASEAN NCAP and policy makers in the long term. Moreover, the comparison between autonomous technology assessment between NCAP portrays the need for more autonomous technology assessment in ASEAN NCAP. Based on the review, five recommendations have been drawn for the future ASEAN NCAP Roadmap. |
