Zusammenfassung: | This experimental study was conducted to assess the general safety of Garcinia mangostana Linn microparticle extract on BALB/c mice renal function after 14 days of administration. In this experimental study, the microparticles of G. mangostana extract were wrapped in chitosan alginate capsules to reach the target organ effectively. BALB/c mice were divided into the control group and treatment group (2 g/kg BW, 1 g/kg BW, and 0.5 g/kg BW). Renal physiology was assessed from Blood Urea Nitrogen (BUN) level and creatinine level after 14 days of treatment. BUN and creatinine levels were found significant in male mice (p = 0.021 and p = 0.043) at doses of 2 g/kg BW when compared to control. G. mangostana extract did not affect renal weight. Signs of clinical toxicity were not seen during the treatment. These results designate that microencapsulation of G. mangostana Linn increases BUN and creatinine if given at 2 g/kg BW dose for 14 days on male mice. The extract G. mangostana Linn is secure until 2 g/kg BW of dose for 14 days of administration on BALB/c mice. |
