Tribological performance of high density polyethylene – Hydroxyapatite blends
This study presents the tribological performance of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and hydroxyapatite (HA) blends to be used as a biomaterial for the synovial joints. In fact the HA was added to HDPE in 10, 20, 30, 40 percent by weight to enhance the wear and friction properties. The test was cond...

Zusammenfassung: | This study presents the tribological performance of high density polyethylene (HDPE) and hydroxyapatite (HA) blends to be used as a biomaterial for the synovial joints. In fact the HA was added to HDPE in 10, 20, 30, 40 percent by weight to enhance the wear and friction properties. The test was conducted by using an advanced pin-on-disc tribometer under dry running conditions. It is found that the addition of fillers to the composite renders 5% reduction of wear rate under similar operating conditions. |
