Zusammenfassung: | Coagulation behaviour of titanium tetrachloride (TiCl4) was investigated to treat leachate from Alor Pongsu landfill in regard to reduction in suspended solids (RSS), colour (Rc) and chemical oxygen demand (RCOD) and heavy metals. The studied factors were including pH (4, 7 and 10), TiCl4 dosage (800 mg/L, 1000 mg/L and 1200 mg/L) and chitosan dosage (0 mg/L, 250 mg/L and 500 mg/L). The results indicated that the highest RSS was 92.02 % at the pH 4, 1200 mg/L of TiCl4 and without chitosan addition. Furthermore, highest RC was 82.80% at experimental condition of 1200 mg/L TiCl4 and 500 mg/L chitosan with pH 4, while highest RCOD of 71.92 % was achieved at the same condition but pH 10. The produced sludge was characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) equipped with Energy Dispersive X-Ray (EDX). The results of this study indicated that TiCl4 is a promising coagulant for wastewater treatment. |
