Zusammenfassung: | Direct numerical simulations were performed to investigate scalar mixing in decaying isotropic turbulence. The results are consistent with the laboratory experiments of Warhaft and Lumley [J. Fluid Mech. 88, 659 (1978)], which showed that the asymptotic scalar decay of the variance is dependent on the initial velocity‐to‐scalar length‐scale ratio. The results indicate that the universal scalar decay found in the simulations of Eswaran and Pope [Phys. Fluids 31, 506 (1988)] is due to the forcing of the turbulence. |
