Zusammenfassung: | Pavements are constructed to last for a number of years. Therefore, a good and durable asphalt surface layer is required. The asphalt binder is modified to improve the performance of asphalt mix. Nano silica (NS) has advantages properties such as strong absorption, large surface area and excellent stability. The objective of this study is to investigate the use of NS as an asphalt binder modifier to improve the binder properties and rutting resistance of asphalt mix. Penetration grade 60/70 (PEN 60/70) asphalt binder was modified with 2% NS by weight of the asphalt binder. Marshall tests were carried out on the samples and volumetric analysis were then determined. The optimum binder content (OBC) obtained for 0%NSMB samples is 4.92% while the OBC for 2%NSMB samples 4.96%. Using the asphalt pavement analyzer (APA) device, it was found that NSMB can reduce rutting depth and rate of rutting on asphalt mixture. It can be concluded that 2%NSMB has the potential to improve rutting resistance and improve the durability of the asphalt mix. |
